Openning day weekend was a success.
June 2009
Working hard to be ready for our openning day July 4th. We're working hard on several track projects, as well as prepping the station and our railcar fleet for the big day.
Come check us out!
June 20 was a momumental day! After passing her checkup, locomotive #53 was started for the first time in about 5 years. A video clip of this event is on YouTube. She idled for several hours. The next day, #53 pulled #50 up and down the tracks to test her under load.
May 2009
Made headway on the track projects. Also saw steady progression on the railcars and train station.
Oil test results are in for locomotive #50. Looks like we need to schedule an
oil change prior to our startup. Contributions to help out would be apprecitated.
May 2 & 3 - Cleaning of coach 3248, station work, and track work.
April 2009
The snow released the ROW from its grip about mid month which delayed a number of our work projects.
Used locomotive #50 to move cars off the wye in Burnham, storing a few in Unity, then took coach 3248 down to Brooks. Also took open air car #25 up to Thorndike to move the benches out of coach 3236 onto #25.
Drainage work started around the Brooks station. Station is the low spot and was collecting a lot of water underneath it. Scraping was started to prep the station for painting next month.
Acquired a slightly used hi-rail vehicle, this will no doubt please the track crews with our track projects.
Started culvert and drainage work on the ROW.
Placed the batteries in locomotive #53, however, we're missing the cables to complete the setup.
All rail bike are in Brooks, however, the program is delayed as we iron out procedural issues.
March 2009
The Society recently acquired two former Lackawanna coaches (3248 & 3236) through an agreement with one our members Paul Cronin. Coach 3248 will be our primary coach as it requires minor work to place into service. Whereas coach 3236 needs extensive restoration work, that will be done throughout this summer.
November 2008
November 2nd saw the first use of locomotive 50 by BPS as we moved our
open air car #25 from Thorndike to Brooks.
